There's something people miss about layoffs. I'm old and almost done with my tech career, but this is what I've seen. There are jobs that companies want to staff, and jobs companies they need to staff. Some of the jobs that they need to staff might revolve around regulatory compliance. For instance, any publicly traded company needs people to ensure they're in compliance with legal frameworks like Sarbanes Oxley. The pharmaceutical sector has it's own regulatory obligations. Each sector has areas of regulatory compliance. These types of jobs are rarely considered dream jobs, but they're nearly immune from layoffs. Anyone can be laid off, but you can choose areas of work that are less vulnerable to the slings and arrows of the short-term status of the economy.
