I still refuse to use emojis in text messages. I'll say something like, "By convention, it would be appropriate for me to respond with a thumbs-up emoji, which would convey positive sentiments towards your last text message. It would also convey a sense of closure to the conversation. However, I am disinclined to use the thumbs-up emoji at this time."
