From everything I've read. Twitter didn't move to microservices until they really needed to. I believe it started as a simple Ruby application. Why not just break up the monolith when you need to?

If you have scalability issues, pat yourself on the back, your startup is doing well.

It seems like there are plenty of other things you can do your first year at a startup.
